Street children
Romania's homeless street children are a result of the policies of the former Communist ruler Nicolae Ceauşescu, who forbade contraception with the hopes of increasing Romania's population. Many of these children were abandoned because their parents are too poor to feed them or ran away from home because of parental violence and alcohol consumption.
